For many years, I delivered exercise classes in person, working primarily with older adults using well-established strength and balance principles, including the Otago approach. Alongside group sessions, I also spent a great deal of time working one-to-one with people who needed extra support — often individuals who had experienced falls, health setbacks, or a growing fear of movement.
Over time, it became clear that strength and balance training is still widely overlooked, despite how vital it is. Many people who would benefit most simply don’t have access to this type of support — whether due to location, cost, mobility, confidence, or health conditions such as Parkinson’s. Again and again, I saw people who wanted to stay active and independent but didn’t know where to turn, or felt traditional fitness spaces weren’t designed for them.
This work is also shaped by my own experience. Following several life-changing accidents and incidents, I had to rebuild my own health and fitness from the ground up. That process gave me a deep, personal understanding of how fragile independence can feel — and how quickly confidence can be lost. Regaining strength, balance, and control isn’t just about exercise; it’s about protecting your ability to live life on your own terms for as long as possible.
I also saw first-hand how structured, supportive movement can help people living with Parkinson’s feel more capable and confident in their everyday lives. While everyone’s experience is different, the right kind of strength, balance, and confidence-focused exercise can make a meaningful difference to how people move, feel, and engage with the world around them.
Stay Steady Online was created to make this kind of support more accessible. The aim is simple: to provide safe, supportive strength and balance sessions that can be done at home, at your own pace, with encouragement rather than pressure. Everything is designed to help people feel steadier, stronger, and more confident in their daily movement — whatever stage of life they’re in.
I’m deeply passionate about supporting this often overlooked community, and about helping people hold on to their independence, confidence, and quality of life for as long as possible.
